RE:              Regional Summit Sessions

We are excited to kick off the Regional Summit sessions in each area of the province. These will take place in the following areas, locations and dates outlined below:

  • Central – Gander: October 28-30
  • Eastern – Southern Shore/ Goulds: November 4-6
  • Tri Pen – Clarenville: November 18-20
  • Western – Corner Brook: November 25-27

All sessions will take place at the arena and off ice sessions in the meetings rooms. Exact locations of each session will be outlined in the schedule provided prior to.

The weekend is packed with development sessions for coaches to learn from the Hockey NL Development Committee, enjoy a hot stove and social as well take back some great information to their associations and teams. Coaches will receive their Goaltending 1 coach course free of charge ($40 fee). This will allow them to be a registered goalie coach but will also help them improve ice sessions for all those involved. Officials will take in a classroom and on ice training session outside of the typical officiating level clinics.

This weekend will cover positioning, skating drills and much more. Throughout the day coaches will help take part in the U7 through U18 and help facilitate a Small Area game session along with a Coach and Official educational presentation which will cover educational pieces on new rules in place this season and some rules commonly confused or misunderstood.

We are excited to offer a Try Goaltending Program where new or beginner goaltenders can come try it with no pressure. All participants are asked to bring their own equipment for the sessions. Check with your local association to see if they can help provide some.

All we ask coaches to bring is there on ice equipment (skates, gloves, stick, helmet and track suit). For classroom sessions bring a pen or pencil and notepad as you may like to take notes. We look forward to an exciting weekend to help grow and develop coaches and players within Hockey NL. At the end we will have some giveaways for those who attend.  On top of these educational sessions being offered to all participants we will have in-person Coach 1, Coach 2 and Development 1 clinics Saturday evening and Sunday morning. All are outlined in the schedule. Coaches interested in the D1 Clinic must have the MED portion completed prior to the clinic date.

Yours in Hockey,
